Scope and Contents
Subseries 8B consists of research notes and bio-assay results. It includes correspondence files between Gold and the various laboratories and pharmaceutical companies with which he collaborated on digitalis studies and who provided him the tinctures and preparations used in his bioassays on humans, cats, frogs and pigeons. The subseries also includes comparisons of digitalis alternatives for the treatment of heart disease, such as the use of convallaria and strophanthin and the results of Gold’s numerous studies on cardiac glycosides. Drafts of digitalis manuscripts are also found within the subseries.
