The statue of "Lafayette arriving in America" was executed in 1872 by Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, and in 1876 was placed in Union square, New York. "Liberty enlightening the World," the colossal statue on Liberty Island, in New York Harbor, is also Bartholdi's work. White
