Scope and Contents

O: Bust of Lafayette in redingote, with the legend: General Lafayette around the edge. R: "Defender of American and French Liberty. Born 1757, Died 1834. Statue in New York Unveiled Sept. 6, 1876". The statue of "Lafayette arriving in America" was executed in 1872 by Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, and in 1876 was placed in Union square, New York. "Liberty enlightening the World," the colossal statue on Liberty Island, in New York Harbor, is also Bartholdi's work. White
