Ynestra King Reads Seventeen Length: 28:00 Format: U-Matic, 1982
Scope and Contents
Activist and Ecofeminist Ynestra King reads Seventeen magazine. Ynestra exposes how the publication's superficial and commercial based message to teen girls leaves them without the necessary tools for identity based empowerment and can ultimately isolate special needs and minority teen groups. Ms. King also outlines numerous non-commercial methods for improving this publication such as addressing much more common women's issues like community health resources, sexuality counseling and social awareness.
