Unemployment insurance -- United States

Materials concern the movement to promote government provision of retirement, health, unemployment and other forms of social insurance and progressive social legislation.

These records deal chiefly with the union during the presidential terms of office of A.F. Whitney (1928-1949), W.P. Kennedy (1949-1963), and Charles Luna (1963-1968).

This is a collection of duplicate material which was given to us by his wife. Professor Witte's papers have been given to the University of Wisconsin.

Much of the material concerns various strikes, including the New York cloakmakers' strikes of 1926 and 1929, as well as the "Protocol of Peace" of 1910. There are some additional items dealing with the New York Cloak Joint Board. A good portion of the material is administrative in nature.

The collection consists of correspondence, subject files, form letters, circulars, speeches and other items from Morris Sigman's term as ILGWU president.

Tracts and pamphlets on topics related to the labor question and the free enterprise system. Also included are a sample of NAM periodical literature and releases of the NAM Press Bureau.

Records document the League's research and lobbying activities for federal and state legislation and various social action programs. Consist of routine business records, published and unpublished reports, correspondence, and research documents pertaining to equal pay, equal rights, minimum wage, child labor, women workers, migrant workers, and fair labor standards.

This collection consists of the office files of the Railway Labor Executives' Association for the years 1930 through 1967 and select general and subject files for 1926 through 1976. The files include correspondence, court case reports, court decisions, legal filings, executive orders, reports of emergency boards, statistics, copies of legislation, political records, arbitration and mediation records, financial statements and labor agreements.

Correspondents of note include Mother Jones, George Meany, Matthew Woll, Daniel Tobin, President Woodrow Wilson, President Franklin D. Roosevelt, and officers of the United Mine Workers of America.

Consist of governance and financial documents, reports, correspondence, memoranda and notes pertaining to radio programs, courses and programs to promote workers' education, adult and vocational schools and educational programs (1921-1951).
