To the left is a portion of the main coal yard. These piers dumped 18 million tons of coal in the year 1959, and some years have dumped more.

Over 200 men work at these coal bins over a 24-hour period. The pedestrian traffic around all these tracks is very heavy and requires lookout at all times.

Gives a view of the west end of the Portlock yard and shows the continuous curves on all tracks. These extended curvatures make it imperative for enginemen on both sides of the locomotive to maintain a lookout and frequently require the fireman to take and relay signals to the engineman.
