Note that engineer is blind on left side of engine, as to any movement that may be taking place on that side. Also note in this picture, an engine moving towards the switch with visible V, the engine could not see the engine approaching from the opposite direction. He must depend on the man on the left side of the cab in both cases. SP Unit 1002.
