Scope and Contents
The journal, written in Hartland, Vt., contains household hints, remedies for illnesses, lists of herbs and their uses, and a recipe for madder. The journal is accompanied by a four-page document headed: To dye scarlet red on woolen, which contains dye recipes for red, green and other colors.
