Scope and Contents

Women's Bureau U.S. Department of Labor, World War II -- United States, 1940s -- Ferrotyped silver prints measuring approximately 8x10 in., the majority bearing the Bureau's stamp on the verso; depicting women operating equipment in the fabrication of aircraft parts at Bell and Boeing factories; polishing small parts for Rolls Royce aircraft engines; two images from Chicago's Container Corporation of America show women sorting and packing the flat cardboard sheets, and operating giant industrial staplers in the fabrication of boxes; also of note are an ad for a practical work outfit: blouse, slacks, and hat, modelled by a women operating a drill press; and a national defense training program booth sponsored by the W.P.A. and offered in Cleveland public schools in 1941; one repeat; some with the photographer or studio identified on verso, some with captions.
