Abstract

This collection consists of the papers of John Bryant. Included are training manuals for affirmative action implementation, correspondence from the Minority Employment Service, union pamphlets, and proposals for training programs in the Ithaca-Cortland area.

Biographical / Historical

John Bryant was a community organizer and activist who served many constituencies over the course of his life. Of particular note is his development of and work with the Comprehensive Employment and Training Act (CETA) funded program Operation TRADE. This program provided education and training to its members. He also advocated for increased hiring of minorities in trades and worked for the Elmira Housing Authority, where he advocated on behalf of the tenants. Mr. Bryant passed away in 2013.
