Biographical / Historical

Almost as soon as cotton manufacturing became an industry in the United States, Wm. C. Plunkett & Sons commenced the manufacture of cotton warps for weavers. The original mill – we call it the nest egg – began operations in 1814. In 1829 it was bought by Wulliam C. Plunkett who soon began the manufacture of cotton warps. From that beginning, the great Plunkett mills have developed, today comprising 350,000 spindles and 6,000 looms.
