 Collection
Identifier: 6896/011

Scope and Contents

Richmond Worsted Company Records includes newspaper excerpts tracing the history of the Richmond Worsted Co. and its predecessors in Richmond, ME. The excerpts are from an unidentified newspaper or journal copied by an unidentified compiler. The entries for 1881-1889 describe the construction of the Southard Manufacturing Co., a cotton mill manufacturing cotton bags and yarn; entries for 1895-1900 outline the purchase of the company by parties from New Bedford and Fall River, MA; those for 1901-1905 indicate a name change to the Kennebec Spinning Mill, producing cotton yarn. Entries for 1906-1913 give the history of another name change, to the Knapp Spinning Mill; those for 1919-1921 outline the start of the Richmond Silk Mill; and the final entries, for 1921-1930, provide a history of the start of the Richmond Worsted Co.
