Scope and Contents
The Sam Steinhart Papers includes labor-related materials donated by Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers Union retirees from an advertisement placed by the Textile Museum in the union newsletter, Seniority: A Newsletter for ACTWU Retirees (April 1981). Includes Steinhart's membership booklets for 1928, 1929 and 1930 in the National Textile Workers Union of America; flyers for union rallies for: Knitgoods and Textile Workers of Brooklyn mass meeting, March 21, 1929, and solidarity demonstration with the striking textile workers of Yorkshire, England, undated; an issue of the Knitgoods Worker, July 1934, issued by the Knitgoods Workers Industrial Union, New York; a flyer with sample ballot for Local 155 of the ILGWU and Local 155 of the UTWA issued by the Knitgoods Joint Council; various newspaper clippings about strikes and strikers: Republic Steel, Cleveland; silk strikers, Passaic, N.J.; proposed strike in knit goods industry by ILGWU; and disputes between ILGWU and UTWA for jurisdiction over knit goods workers.
