Scope and Contents

The Ramie Manufacture Records contains Skipper's incoming correspondence and copies of outgoing correspondence, 1948-1949, about the fiber including items from importers and manufacturers of ramie products. Also includes reports and newspaper clippings about ramie, as well as some cloth samples.

Biographical / Historical

E. Lee Skipper was from Lancaster, SC. He worked for Springs Cotton Mills and retired as vice-president. As a retirement project, he was experimenting with production of cloth from ramie. Ramie is a fiber obtained from the bark of the ramie plant.
