Scope and Contents

The Asel Mann Wade Papers includes three letter books, 1863-1887, with copies of Wade's outgoing correspondence from the Pacific Mills. The volumes are indexed by addressee. Also includes personal items belonging to Wade, including a Bible, notes on genealogy, personal letters, 1866-1875, and two commemorative objects with a tag identifying them as having been presented to Wade by the men in his employ at the Pacific Mills. Also contains an undated photograph of Wade.

Biographical / Historical

Wade was born in Gloucester, RI and came to Lawrence, MA in 1853. He served as overseer and then superintendent of the Pacific Mills, manufacturers of cotton and worsted goods in Lawrence.
