Biographical / Historical
Naumkeag was incorporated in 1839, with manufacturing in Salem, MA and finishing operations in Peabody, MA. In 1950 it moved to Whitney, SC. It made cotton sheets and pillowcases, especially under the trademark "Pequot," cotton sheetings, industrial fabrics and a small amount of greige goods. Indian Head was founded in 1834. As a Nashua, NH firm, it made shirtings and sheetings and was acquired by the Nashua Manufacturing Co., also of Nashua, NH. The latter became a subsidiary of Textron, Inc., in 1945. The company also operated a plant in Cordova, AL.
