Scope and Contents
The Methuen International Mills Records includes orders for machinery, most to Crompton & Knowles Loom Works, Worcester, MA. Contains notebooks from Crompton & Knowles about broad loom orders, one addressed to Selden Worsted Mill, Lawrence, MA, 1919; two to Selden Worsted Mill, Methuen, 1928; and one to Methuen International, 1951. Also contains a catalog, 1924, from Crompton & Knowles, with manuscript additions; notebooks of order forms for machinery parts, 1964-1969, many to Crompton & Knowles; specifications, 1940, 1949, from Crompton & Knowles for worsted looms; and correspondence, 1959, 1963, 1972, about machinery ordered. Includes agreements between Methuen International and the Textile Workers Union of America, 1966-1969, an agreement, 1977, with the Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers Union, and two undated notices from James K. Selden, President of Methuen International, about OSHA noise level standards.

Biographical / Historical
In 1919-1920, a weaving mill was built in Methuen, MA. and occupied by the Selden Worsted Mill. Selden Worsted, founded in 1903, was originally in Lawrence, MA. In 1920, it moved to the new mill in Methuen and remained in business there until 1964.
