Biographical / Historical

Professor Herbert J. Ball of the Lowell Textile School graduated from MIT in 1906. He began his teaching career soon after as instructor of mechanical drawing at Lowell. By 1945 he had risen to Professor of Textile Engineering and department head. On his retirement he was named professor emeritus. He was also a Fellow of the British Textile Institute. In 1929 and 1930 he did advanced study at MIT in textile analysis. A large portion of this collection deals with machinery and instruments for textile testing. Upon Professor Ball's retirement his successor Edward L. Golec inherited his files to which he added a few items.
