Biographical / Historical
Lawrence Manufacturing Company was a cotton manufacturer in Lowell, MA, with offices in Boston. Established in 1828 and incorporated in 1831, it originally manufactured sheetings. After the Civil War, it manufactured hosiery, knitwear, underwear and yarn. C. Brooks Stevens purchased the company in 1926. In the 1930's, the company began to manufacture wide knit goods only. In 1946, it became a division of the Ames Textile Corp.
