Scope and Contents

The Harriet W. Lynch Papers includes Lynch's diary, 1859-1862, with entries about being recruited to work in the Wilsonville mills and her duties as a weaver, as well as information about household work, social life, religion and the weather. Collection also contains a diary of Lynch's sister, 1878-1879; property deeds, 1834 and 1869; papers relating to William Lynch's military service, and books owned by the Lynch family.

Biographical / Historical

Harriet W. Lynch worked as a weaver in mills in Wilsonville, CT before and briefly after her marriage to William Lynch in 1861. She and her husband, a Civil War veteran, owned a small farm and orchard in Thompson, CT They had five children, some of whom worked in the textile industry in Windham County, CT, Newmarket, NH, and Lawrence, MA.
