Scope and Contents
The Assabet Mills Records Include records, 1907-1929, listing lot numbers, style and order numbers, description, purchase lot, weight, price and amount for various stock, and weight of yarn. Also contains a volume, 1932-1933, with wool lots and prices.

Biographical / Historical
The company, located in Maynard, MA, was founded in 1847 by Amory Maynard and his partner, William H. Knight. It manufactured carpets and carpet yarn. This business failed in 1857, but the Assabet Manufacturing Company, organized in 1862 with Maynard as managing agent, prospered by making woolens, flannels and blankets for the army in the Civil War. The Assabet Manufacturing Co. failed in 1898 and was purchased by the American Woolen Co. in 1899. The mills were shut down in 1950.
