Biographical / Historical
Born in Zanesville, Ohio on February 11, 1914, Lippe later moved to Rochester, New York, where he graduated from Monroe High School. After graduating from the University of Illinois in 1938, he worked for the Rochester Evening Journal, and over the course of his career, wrote for newspapers in South Bend and Indianapolis, Indiana and Doylestown, Pennsylvania. Lippe was editor of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen's Trainman News from 1947 to 1950 and 1953-1955. From 1953-1955, he also served as the BRT's Director of the Public Relations from 1953 to 1955. From 1950 to 1953, and after his retirement from the BRT in 1955, Lippe was involved with labor and international affairs, including work with the State Department's labor attache program and the International Labor Organization. Irvin S. Lippe died in Vero Beach, Florida on February 26, 1999.
