Biographical / Historical
The Building Trades Council is a constituionally mandated department of the AFL-CIO. It was started on February 10, 1908 to overcome the jurisdictional conflicts in the building and construction trade unions. It helps coordinate local unions in the building trades, with contract negotiations and apprenticeship and training programs.
