Biographical / Historical
The American Labor Party (ALP) was established in 1936 by labor leaders in the AFL and CIO out of the Labor's Non-Partisan League and Social Democratic Federation. The CIO Political Action Committee (CIO-PAC) was established in July 1943 to support the 1944 re-election of President Franklin D. Roosevelt and to promote CIO-endorsed political candidates at the local and national level. The committee was chaired by Sidney Hillman, head of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America (ACWA), from 1943 to 1946.
