Scope and Contents
Black and white image of men working in a Paterson, N.J., silk mill. Weighting consists of immersing the silk in a tin solution to increase its weight and give it body. The round vats seen here contain the tin in solution. The silk is put in these vats and while rotating rapidly, absorbs the solution of tin.
