Scope and Contents

The man in the foreground is operating a machine that is "breaking" the silk into patterns, in this case deep spiral flutings. A number of men are in the background, some of them folding silks. No specific mill is given, but Paterson, N.J., was a center of the silk industry in the U.S. New York: Underwood & Underwood, ca. 1900-1920. 18 x 9 cm.
