Interviews with railroad union members on the creation of the UTU, 1970
Scope and Contents
Consists of a manuscript notebook containing a poll of union members and union officials employed on the Erie-Lackawanna Railroad. The poll concerned the merger which created the United Transportation Union.
Questions were raised concerning the necessity of the merger and its effects, especially at the local level. Also included are notes of interviews with brakemen, engineers, firemen, trainmen, conductors and carmen and notes on the organizing efforts of the new union. This collection also contains routine railroad forms and documents.
