Biographical / Historical

Robert “Bob” Buhrman, Cornell University M.S. ’69, Ph.D. ’73, was the John Edson Sweet Memorial Professor of Engineering Emeritus and Cornell’s Second Senior Vice Provost for Research, and Vice President for Technology Transfer and Intellectual Property. He helped expand emerging science and engineering programs, and obtain funding for research. Buhrman was the Founding Director of the Cornell Center for Nanoscale Systems in Information Technologies (CNS). His areas of research interest included applied condensed matter physics with emphasis on nanoscale magnetism and spintronics.
