Scope and content

Records relating to Ezra Cornell's land business, primarily in Wisconsin, but also in Minnesota and Kansas, and to the financial dealings of the university in its first forty years. Includes account books, day books, cash books, ledgers, plat books, land scrip book, lists of lands, tax registers, survey notes, maps, and atlases. Includes correspondence with Ezra Cornell, W. A. Woodward, and Cornell Treasurers, J. W. Williams and E. L. Williams, and correspondence of Henry C. Putnam, Cornell's land agent in Wisconsin. Also, certificate from the State of New York Comptroller's Office re converting of securities to cash for College Land Scrip Fund and amounts generated as well as anticipated annual payments to Cornell University. Includes two receipts, one relating to the land scrip, one a receipt from the Ithaca Savings Bank to G. W. Schuyler, Treasurer, for interest payments in February 1870.
