BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

Physicist.

Robert O. Pohl received the Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Erlangen in Germany in 1957. He joined the Cornell faculty in 1958 in the Department of Physics and the Laboratory of Atomic and Solid State Physics. In 1984, Pohl was awarded the Oliver E. Buckley Solid State Physics Prize of the American Physical Society for his work on the structure of glass and glassy materials. In addition to his basic research, Professor Pohl has been interested in issues relating to nuclear waste disposal, serving on President Carter's advisory committee.
