ORGANIZATIONAL HISTORY

CITA, or the Independent Farmworkers Center, was created in 1991, with the help of Rural and Migrant Ministry, as a grassroots farmworker membership organization. Its first office was in Florida, New York and in 2001 it moved to Albion, New York. Its main focus was to educate farmworkers about their rights and to organize workers to negotiate directly with their employers to resolve problems with work or housing.
