BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE
Reginald R. Isaacs was an architect, city and regional planner, educator, and author. He studied architecture at the University of Minnesota and Harvard University under Walter Gropius, and he studied sociology and planning at the University of Chicago. Isaacs was active in architecture and planning projects in Chicago, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, South America, and other locations. At Harvard, he served as Charles Dyer Norton Professor of Regional Planning beginning in 1951, chaired the Department of City and Regional Planning during 1953-1964, and participated in the development of the urban design program. He wrote a two-volume biography of Walter Gropius, which was published in German as Walter Gropius: Der Mensch und sein Werk in 1983 and 1984. The English edition, Walter Gropius: An Illustrated Biography of the Creator of the Bauhaus, was edited posthumously and published in 1991.
