Biographical / Historical
The Screamers were an American punk rock group formed in 1975 that participated in the first wave Los Angeles, California punk scene. Often categorized as electropunk, their sound included a synthesizer (ARP Odyssey) and electric piano (Fender Rhodes). Other punk musicians and bands have cited the Screamers as a key influence. The group never released an official recording of any kind, although several bootleg recordings of rehearsals or live performances have since appeared; they have been called one of the great unrecorded groups in rock history. Artist Gary Panter's logo for the band, a stylized cartoon of a screaming head with spiked hair, became one of the most recognizable images to emerge from punk rock.
