Transcripts of 38 interviews with lesbian, gay, and transgender steel workers from Northwest Indiana and Ontario, Canada. Identifying information of the individual steel workers has been deleted, and may be made available in 2114. Balay asigned pseudonyms. Topics covered in the interviews include workplace hazards, occupational related cancer, alcoholism, masculinity, homophobia in the workplace, and how these individuals negotiate their lives in conditions quite hostile to transgender people and homosexuals.

BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE
Balay conducted oral history interviews with forty lesbian, gay, and transgender steel workers and subsequently wrote the 2014 book "Steel Closets: Voices of Gay, Lesbian, and Transgender Steelworkers." Thirty-five steel workers live in Northwest Indiana. Five live in Ontario, Cananda. Four are transgender: one FTM (female to male) and three MTF (male to female).
