COLLECTION DESCRIPTION

The Methodist Episcopal Church of Danby; 3 vols. of records, mainly document Quarterly Stewart Meetings (1831-1885). Although a class was organized in 1811, no records exist before 1831. The Quarterly Stewart Meeting records include: names of persons elected stewards, names of individuals given licenses to preach, reports on the Sabbath school and the state of the church, and records of money collected during the year.

Also included in the collection are annual trustee meeting records (1831-1915) and a church register (1856-1906).

ORGANIZATIONAL HISTORY

The Methodist Church of Danby was originally organized as a class of five members in 1811. It was incorporated as a society in 1831. The next year the church building was begun. There were two other appointments in the Danby circuit, Morris Chapel (which had 60 members in 1879) and Jersey Hill.
