COLLECTION DESCRIPTION

Pamphlets, circulars, legal documents, and leaflets documenting various aspects of life and thought in Ithaca, New York. Included are lectures and speeches by Cornell University faculty; reports of or to Ithaca city officials and departments such as the Fire Department; pamphlets on the history, principles, and services of local churches, including the First Congregational Church, First Unitarian Church (also known as the First Unitarian Society) and First Presbyterian Church; early telephone directories; constitutions, reports, and manuals of local organizations, such as the Country Club of Ithaca and the Young Men's Christian Association; and illustrated "Carrier's address" booklets of light poetry delivered to subscribers annually by carriers of the Ithaca daily journal. Also included is an early pamphlet written in defense of Cornell University, titled The Cornell University: what it is, and what it is not (1872).
