Includes 24 scrapbooks and 12 notebooks compiled by Mulks, including notes on the settlement, migration, and treaties of Indians; Caroline, New York, slave population; local folklore; histories of many prominent families of Tompkins County, including the Ellis, Meddaugh (Middaugh), Mandeville, Mulks, Cornell, DeWitt, Speed, Thomas, and Cantine families; personal material; and notes on many other topics. Also, biographical sketch of Charles F. Mulks by Jane P. M. BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

Charles Freer Mulks was born in Slaterville Springs, Tompkins County, New York, and lived much of his life in nearby Ithaca. A descendant of Benoni Mulks, an early settler of the area, Mulks was interested in the history of Tompkins County, and kept a record of family histories and local events in a series of notebooks and scrapbooks.
