Personal and family papers include legal documents; diaries; letters from friends and relatives; memorabilia and papers relating to his student days at the University of Wisconsin and the University of Illinois; financial and other records concerning his model farm "Gene's Landing," on Seneca Lake in New York. Professional papers include foreign and domestic correspondence on rose growing and judging; flower photographs; notes and patent books that describe and picture numerous rose varieties and perennials he developed; domestic and foreign parentage seedling books and hybridizing records; and many lectures, articles, photographs, and notes concerning floriculture and his work for Jackson & Perkins Company.
