Scope and Contents

O: Lafayette standing in redingote, holding his hat and a stick. Around the edge: A Friend to America et [sic] Freedom. Under the portrait: Died May 20, 1834. R: HM and EI Richards / manufacturers of Jewelry near the Union House Attleboro, Mass. This medal, designed after Ary Scheffer's portrait of Lafayette, was copied by other shop owners, who thought that their business would benefit from being associated with Lafayette's image. White.
