O: Bust of Lafayette facing right in uniform. Legend around the edge : Général Lafayette, né à Chavaniac le 6 S[eptem]bre 1757. R: Appelé par le voeu unanime des citoyens au commandement général des Gardes nationales le 28 juillet 1830, with a laurel wreath. "Cette belle médaille de Caunois, par le fini de son exécution et son allure soignée, tranche avec le négligé [des médailles contemporaines]. Je n'ai cependant trouvé aucune indication historique permettant d'en attribuer la frappe à une cérémonie officielle quelconque." (Olivier, p. 38). White.
