Scope and Contents

O: Bust of Lafayette facing right in a redingote (or double-breasted coat). Legend around the edge : General Lafayette. R: The Defender of American and French Liberty 1777-1824 / Born in Chavagnac [sic] the 6 september 1757. According to Olivier (p. 22), this medal, engraved and struck in France, is much more common than the American original. A gold version was offered by craftsman Caunois to Lafayette (private collection).White.
