COLLECTION DESCRIPTION
Correspondence compiled by Herbert H. Whetzel, Head of the Department of Agricultural Botany at Cornell University, in preparation for biography of Mason Blanchard Thomas following his death. Mason B. Thomas was the Dean of Wabash College and a professor of Botany. Includes correspondence relating to personal recollections of Thomas from former colleagues and students including, John H. Comstock, George Conable, Simon Henry Gage, L.R. Hesler, Richard Holman, Will F. Lewis and a letter from his widow Annie D. Thomas. Also included are handwritten manuscripts and transcripts of papers, lectures and speeches given by Mason B. Thomas; "The Collodion Method in Botany" presented at the American Society of Microscopists 13th Annual Meeting, 1890; "Diseases of Plants" (lecture); 8 papers relating to forestry; "How Plants Grow"; and "The Nature of Parasitic Fungi and their influence on their Host." Also included are clippings, photographs, and other miscellany.
