Abstract

Collection relates to the creation and development of the museum and park. Includes correspondence, photographs and sketches; reports from Mr. Hippen after a consultation visit in May 1968, and from the Historic American Buildings Survey about the mill. Also includes an inventory, 1972, of machinery in the mill and histories and details of the buildings.

Abstract

Image depicts Washington Anderton (b. 1854), who was an expert colorist and superintendent of the print works at Cocheco Manufacturing Co. in Dover from about 1879 to 1895. Anderton is a young man here, seen from the shoulders up, wearing an overcoat and tie, with mutton chop whiskers and a mustache. Foss, Dover, N.H. [photographer?]. Image shows three women at a finishing machine (note that the women are barefoot). On reverse is information about Duncan Stewart & Co.
